Ksenia Kil

How would you describe your work?

I think that the most important theme for me it is the relationship between people and people with nature. We are no more think of ourselves as a part of nature, as a very small part of the reality. We are no longer looking at the bigger perspective but mostly looking and judging at the things throw our point of view. We killed all gods and think that we become one of them. Throw losing connectivity with nature we are slowly or maybe not slow anymore starting to lose connection with one another.  I think that we are living in the world where intellect, knowledge, fact, information are full the ball, but I think that it is as important to develop your emotions, subconscious and feelings. We forget about duality of being. By we I mean myself as well but I am trying to fight those things with my art.

Also, the «artist» itself is a very interesting subject matter. Who is an artist nowadays, how certain people or institutions can identify who is an artist who is not.

Do you see your work as autobiographical at all?

Yes and no. I do not believe in uniqueness of experience. I think that people are experiencing the same spectrum of emotions, feelings and even situations. The context is changing but not the emotional content.

What mediums do you work with?

Acrylic and oil paintings. Charcoal and pen drawings. Also, I destroy the integrity of the surface by making holes in the canvas. That allows me to work in 3 dimensions. Depending on the lighting, the image is changing.

What are you presently inspired by— are there particular things you are reading, listening to or looking at to fuel your work?

Mostly nature inspiring me, shapes, textures, composite solutions all come from things I see outside. Also music, I believe that music is the highest form of art, totally abstract, which immediately discerns an answer in both the conscious and the unconscious.

What does having a physical space to make art in mean for your process, and how do you make your space work for you?

I'm a visual type of person and also the perfectionist so space I am working on influences me enormously. I just physically can not work in dark and messy environment. The only kind of chaos I can work in is the ordered chaos created by me.

Is there something you are currently working on, or are excited about starting that you can tell us about?

I started new series of painting I am really excited about, it is inspired by the urban effect of people on nature. Also, I try myself in ceramics and sculpture because I am feeling a need to work with volume.

Which other artists might your work be in conversation with?

It is a lot of them but definitely Laura Sebastianes. Her feeling of textures, materials and space amaze and inspire me a lot. My dear friend and incredibly talented artist Sana Shakhmuradova who inspire we every day with her curiosity.  Also Korakrit Arunanondchai. Even thought we are working with different mediums and have different aesthetics I think that we are talking about similar things.
